Unaccounted cash worth Rs 58 lakh seized in Salem, Coimbatore

Election officials on Friday seized unaccounted cash amounting to over Rs 58 lakh during vehicle checks in Coimbatore and Salem districts.

During a routine check in Salem, officials intercepted a van near the city government boys high school but the driver of the vehicle suddenly sped away.

However, the officials gave chase and managed to intercept the vehicle. During a search of the vehicle, unaccounted cash worth Rs 56,56,800 was found, they said.

In another incident, officials confiscated cash to the tune of Rs 2.15 lakh from a banana farmer in Coimbatore district, after he failed to produce valid documents, they said.
