Unable to pay home loan, Tamil magazine editor and wife commit suicide in Chennai

The Managing Editor of the Tamil magazine Kalki Deepam and his wife committed suicide in their house in Ramapuram in Chennai on Tuesday, unable to pay the instalments for their housing loan, according to The Times of India.

The editor Srinivasa Raghavan and his wife S Janaki had brought an apartment a year and half ago. They have an 8-year-old son who was sent to their relative’s house three days ago. The couple did not leave any suicide note behind.

The investigating officer told The Times of India, “The couple had an argument on the financial problems and Janaki locked herself in a room. Later, Raghavan found her hanging using a sari. Later, he used a rope and hanged himself in the hall.”

Raghavan was the Managing Editor of the magazine and his wife was a teacher in a neighbourhood private school and took home tuitions. Police said that few children came for the tuitions on Tuesday morning and knocked the doors and there was no response. Janaki’s colleagues also came looking for her when no one responded they peeped through the door and found the couple hanging, according to the TOI report.

The Royola Nagar police found after investigation that the couple was facing difficulty in paying the house loan.
