Two more arrested for rumours on Jayalalithaa’s health, 6 arrests made so far

On Thursday night, the Tamil Nadu police arrested two more people in Coimbatore for spreading 'false' news about CM Jayalalithaa’s health. So far, six people have been arrested in Tamil Nadu for spreading rumours about her health.

Two employees of Canara Bank in Coimbatore, Ramesh and Suresh, have been arrested for circulating a false audio recording.

They have been charged under sections 505 (1) (b)- (with intent to cause, or which is likely to cause, fear or alarm to the public), 294 (b)-(recites or utters any obscene song, ballad or words, in or near any public place) and 506 (1)- (Punishment for criminal intimidation).

They were produced before the Coimbatore court and have been remanded to Coimbatore central jail for 15 days.

On Thursday, two other people were arrested, Thirumani Selvam, a bank official from Thoothukudi was arrested by the Crime Branch police for spreading false rumours about Jayalalithaa’s health on Facebook. Another man Balasundaram from Pammal was arrested by police for a similar crime. 

On October 10, Satish Kumar, a software engineer hailing from Namakkal, working at a private company was arrested for creating and sharing a Facebook post regarding Jayalalithaa’s health.

Police had also arrested another man, Madasamy for uploading a fake audio recording of an Apollo Hospital staff speaking about Jayalalithaa’s health onto his website.
