Fifteen students from Venkateshwara Medical College were travelling to Chennai in three cars for a friend’s birthday party. The students started on Tuesday evening from Tirupati.

Police told TOI that eyewitnesses saw the cars were racing against each other.

When they reached Kangamma Chathiram, which is between Tiruttani and Thiruvallur, Pranab Reddy who was driving one of the cars overtook another heavy vehicle and ended up hitting an ambulance that was coming from the other direction.

Due to the impact, the car flung to the side, ran along the road for a short distance and hit a boulder. Both Sivasai Krishna and Sudarshan died on the spot. All the injured, including the driver and assistant, were taken out from the damaged vehicles and carried in the ambulance.
