At the Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) general council meeting, actor and party president Vijay declared, "Next year, Tamil Nadu will witness an unprecedented election. The contest is solely between TVK and the DMK [Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam]." He also cautioned the Union government to "handle Tamil Nadu with care."
The TVK's general council meeting, held on March 28 in Chennai, featured party leaders including general secretary Bussy Anand, campaign general secretary Aadhav Arjuna, and IT and social media general secretary Nirmal Kumar.
Vijay reiterated his claim that the DMK and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are "secretly" collaborating. Addressing criticism that TVK is less critical of the BJP than the DMK, he countered accusations of being "afraid" to name Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "We have spoken about the Union government. Who is in the Union government? Is it the Congress?"
Referring to Modi, Vijay questioned, "Why are you, who secretly support the corrupt DMK that claims alliance with the Congress, so hostile to Tamil Nadu and its people? You consistently collect GST from Tamil Nadu, yet fail to allocate sufficient funds in the Budget. You impose the three-language policy on our students while neglecting their funding. You attempt to reduce Tamil Nadu's Parliamentary representation through delimitation. We recognised your 'One Nation, One Election' plan for what it is. Understand this: Tamil Nadu has resisted the control of many."
Vijay asserted that TVK would form the state government in the 2026 Assembly elections. "We will ensure 100% safety for women, enforce strict law and order, and prioritise education, sanitation, and health with equal access for all. We will champion workers’ rights, be they government employees or transport and electricity board staff. We will protect Tamil Nadu's agricultural land and ecology, opposing any detrimental schemes. Our duty is to safeguard Tamil Nadu."
He emphasized TVK's ideological foundation, stating, "Our political strength lies in unwavering principles. We have chosen Periyar's social justice, Kamaraj's honest administration, Ambedkar's equal justice and opportunity, Velunachiyar’s social inclusivity and communal harmony, and Anjalai Ammal’s fight for water resources as our guiding principles. We are proud to be the first party to honor two historic female freedom fighters from Tamil Nadu as our ideologues."
Vijay concluded, "With unwavering faith, we will usher in significant political change in the upcoming Assembly elections, delivering the government the people desire."
Aadhav Arjuna, who also spoke at the meeting, criticised the DMK and the BJP on various issues and also claimed that the two parties were “secretly” working with each other.
He slammed the DMK for its actions regarding the Vengaivayal atrocity and the Kallakurichi liquor deaths. He also criticised the new direction the investigation into the Vengaivayal case has taken.
In January this year, the Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department (CB-CID) alleged that the deliberate contamination of a drinking water tank used by Dalit residents of Vengaivayal had not been a caste crime as previously believed. The CB-CID, in its chargesheet, instead accused three Dalit residents of having carried out the vicious act, claiming they had been motivated by revenge against the local Panchayat leader from the dominant Other Backward Class (OBC) Mutharaiyar community.
Comparing the BJP to the fascist rule of Benito Mussolini in Italy and the DMK to the Nazi regime of Adolf Hitler, Aadhav went on to make certain questionable statements. He also claimed that the DMK had created many ‘Goebels’, referring to the Nazi propagandaist Joseph Goebels. “During World War 2, the British were fighting on one side, Hitler and Mussolini were fighting on one side. America watched the events quietly and then dropped nuclear bombs on Japan, ending the war. Today, the number one country in the world is America. Not Britain or Germany. Vijay is that nuclear bomb for us.”
Aadhav was comparing Vijay’s upcoming debut in the 2026 Assembly elections to the horrific bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945 by the US. It is worth noting that the two atom bombs dropped by America slaughtered 140,000 civilians, including children and led to decades of severe medical complications among survivors. Further, contrary to common misconception, the US government has admitted that the atom bombs had not been necessary to ensure Japan’s surrender.
A mere year later, in 1946, the US Department of Defence (then the US Department of War) published its Strategic Bombing Survey, which read: “Based on a detailed investigation of all the facts, and supported by the testimony of the surviving Japanese leaders involved, it is the Survey’s opinion that certainly prior to 31 December 1945, and in all probability prior to 1 November 1945, Japan would have surrendered even if the atomic bombs had not been dropped, even if Russia had not entered the war, and even if no invasion had been planned or contemplated.”
