Trouble for AR Rahman over tax evasion inquiries

The News Minute | January 10, 2015 | 09.40 am ISTMusic composer AR Rahman is now facing trouble over alleged Tax evasions related to payment he received from a UK-based company Lebara in 2010-11. While Rahman’s auditor V Sadagopan said that the matter was under dispute, IT officials said that Rahman was under scrutiny for not paying taxes over the US$ 7,50,000 he got for composing a ringtone for the company , Lebara, reported New Indian Express. According to the report, it is alleged that the money was transferred to an account of Rahman’s trust, which was in violation of the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act.While the IT department insisted that the case was one of tax evasion, Sadagopan said that they amount was still kept in the fixed deposit of the bank.TweetFollow @thenewsminute
