Two people were arrested on Saturday in connection with the blast at an explosives factory at Thuraiyur in Trichy, which killed 19 people on December.

The Times of India  reported that the accused will be interrogated at the CB-CID office in Trichy.

A case has been registered against the duo in Uppiliyapuram police station on charges of culpable homicide under section 304 class (2) of IPC, 9 (a) (1) (b) of Indian Explosives Act and 3,4, 4(b), 5 of Explosive Substances Act.

However, the owners of the factory still remain at large

Citing sources, the newspaper said one of the arrested include project director Sivaprakasam and production manager Rajagopal.

The TOI report added that the expert team from Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organization (PESO) was trying to sanitise the area and remained at the site for the second straight day.

The blast at Vetrivel Explosives took place on December 1 morning. The intensity of the blast was so high that it caused the building to collapse, trapping all the workers under mounds of debris.

The explosion at the factory was reportedly so loud that it could be heard 5km from the blast site.
