 1. The long-awaited Chennai Metro rail was inaugurated on Monday afternoon by TN CM J Jayalalithaa via video-conferencing. As people thronged the metro station, the day turned out even more special with the first metro rail ride being piloted by a woman, A Preethi, a 28-year-old diploma-holder in engineering. 2. The alleged custodial torture case involving Shameel Ahmed in Ambur is expected to be transferred to the CB-CID. While 95 youth continue to remain in prison after clashes with police officials that left 38 cops injured, the case registered against seven police personnel in the boy’s death is expected to be transferred soon. 3. Stating that Motor Vehicles Act did not prescribe the impounding, he also said that there was no information on the “status” of pillion riders. 4. The bodies of a couple of two different castes were found in a highly decomposed state in Kinathukidavidu, Coimbatore on Sunday. In love for over four years, the couple is said to have gone missing a week back. The bodies were later retrieved from a dry well. 5. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has given a certificate of appreciation to the Chennai’s regional passport office for their excellent standards of service. The offices at Saligramam, Aminjikarai, and Tambaram have in total processed over four lakh passport applications in the last year, said the report.
