After the recent re-issue of the magazine “Saalai Oram”, a Marxist publication supportive of Maoist movement, in Coimbatore and the recent cases of violence between police and Maoist in Tamil Nadu-Kerala border, the TN police have been forced to be on high alert.

Intelligence sources told The New Indian Express that earlier the magazine was published by a student activist who is a supporter of Maoist movement. After the arrest of Roopesh and his wife Shyna in May 2015 the publication was stopped but the publishing of the magazine has been started again. They also said that student activist has gone underground now.

Sources told The New Indian Express, “Though the activist is a known sympathizer, we have no evidence to confirm that he had joined the Maoist movement. But there are chances for him to join the movement in the future.”

The Coimbatore district police have decided to conduct community outreach programmes on the outskirts of the city. They want to spread awareness to the villagers about the Naxal movement and also to get information about the sensitive areas.

Superintendent of Police RV Ramya Bharathi told that these programmes are to improve ties between the police and the local communities.

The police are trying to make sure that the Maoist do not enter Anaikatty and other neighbouring areas of the district.
