TN police detain suspected Maoist from Sriperumbadur in Tamil Nadu

The Tamil Nadu ‘Q’ branch on Tuesday caught a suspected Maoist in Sriperumbudur who is reported to be involved in ambush of security forces in Chattisgarh, Bihar and Jharkhand areas.

Police sources told The New Indian Express, B Surendra, the accused hails from Palamu district in Jharkhand and was staying in Thandalam village in Sriperumbudur and was working as a construction labourer. They said that Surendra had shifted to Chennai about a year ago and had also been working in various eateries before becoming a construction labourer.

The ‘Q’ branch was keeping a watch on Surendra for the past two days after getting a tip. According to the investigation, the police came to know that he was named in at least 17 cases across the three naxal prevalent states, according to The New Indian Express.

After bringing the suspect to Chennai, he was produced at the Egmore magistrate court on Tuesday evening. The Jharkhand police has been informed and they will be arriving in Chennai to take him into custody, according to The New Indian Express.
