TN Police arrest Salem man who attempted to extort TASMAC shop

A dismissed Taluk office assistant in has been arrested after he attempted to extort money from a TASMAC-run liquor outlet in Veeranam by posing as an election flying squad official Salem, Tamil Nadu, police said on Sunday.

29-year old Prabhu, who was dismissed as office assistant in the Taluk office in Kallakurchi, came to the TASMAC shop Saturday night posing himself as an election official and asked for accounts to scrutinise them.

After the staff showed him the books, he demanded money following which the former got suspicion and asked him to show his ID card.

As he did not have an ID card, he ran away from there. But the passers-by chased and nabbed him.

He was later arrested and further investigations were on, police said.
