Tamil Nadu Minister for Information Technology and Digital Services Palanivel Thiaga Rajan on Monday, April 21, told the state Assembly that his department is not being allocated sufficient funds. The Minister made the remark in response to a request for an Information Technology (IT) park in Gudalur.
AIADMK MLA Pon Jayaseelan, representing Gudalur of the Nilgiris district, urged the state government to establish an Information Technology (IT) park in his constituency, highlighting the need for technological infrastructure in the region.
Responding to the request, the Minister pointed out that the IT Department neither holds jurisdiction over such projects nor has adequate funding.
“The funds allocated to my department are less. Unlike other states, not all tech parks in Tamil Nadu are under the Digital Services Department. TIDEL Parks and Neo TIDEL Parks fall under the Industries Department. We don’t have the authority or funds. If you approach those who do have the skills and budget, you might get what is needed,” he said.
Following this, Speaker M Appavu advised the Minister to respond in a more positive tone and to take up such inter-departmental concerns with Chief Minister MK Stalin to find a solution.
The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly reconvened on Monday after a brief three-day break. The session resumed with Question Hour, during which several MLAs raised constituency-specific issues.
The ongoing session comes after Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu presented the state’s financial statement for 2025-26 on March 14. This was followed by the Agriculture Budget presented by Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister MRK Panneerselvam on March 15.
The House is currently discussing the demands for grants from various departments.
