TN man beaten to death days after allegedly sexually harassing 8-year-old girl

A 35-year-old man, who had allegedly sexually harassed minor girls in his village, was beaten to death by two men in Pudukottai district. According to reports, the incident took place on Sunday night near Aranthangi.

Sakthivel (35) was allegedly a repeat offender who used to sexually harass girls in Kamaraj Nagar in the district. Recently, he allegedly sexually harassed an eight-year-old girl in an isolated place in the locality. A case on that complaint is pending investigation.

Meanwhile, on Sunday night, Sakthivel was intercepted by 26-year-old Kalidass and 34-year-old Kasi Viswanathan. The police said that the two men harboured animosity towards Sakthivel after he had misbehaved with the duo’s relatives. As Kalidass and Kasi Viswanathan engaged in an argument with Sakthivel, a fight broke out. The two men attacked Sakthivel and kicked him on his chest and fled, while Sakthivel collapsed.

Passersby rushed Sakthivel to the Avudaiyarkoil government hospital. From there, he was shifted to the Pudukottai Medical College and Hospital, where the doctors declared him brought dead. The police managed to track down Kasi Viswanathan and apprehend him, while Kalidass is still absconding.

In a similar incident near Villupuram in December, a man was beaten by the villagers for attempting to rape a three-year-old girl. According to reports, the villagers heard the cries of the girl and rushed to the spot to find the man allegedly trying to rape the girl.

In October, a school teacher in Thiruvannamalai was attacked by a group of men in a classroom for allegedly sexually harassing a girl student. A video, which showed the mob entering the classroom and beating the teacher in front of all the students went viral. The teacher, had allegedly harassed a Class 10 student during the special classes that were held in September. The incident came to light after the student missed a week’s classes and her parents asked her  the reason.
