TN govt school teacher arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting minor

After a 10-year-old student was allegedly sexually assaulted in Tiruvallur, a 40-year-old male teacher was arrested on Monday.

According to Deccan Chronicle, doctors examined the girl after she fainted at her residence due to the pain. The girl was rushed to a neighbouring hospital after she collapsed at her home on Sunday.

The parents of the girl filed a complaint with the Tiruvallur police who registered a case against Srinivasan, an assistant teacher at the Panchayat Union school.

Cases were filed under Section 354A (sexual harassment), Section 10 (punishment for aggravated sexual assault), 9(f) (accused being on the staff of an educational institution) and 9(k) (whoever, taking advantage of a child's mental or physical disability, commits sexual assault on the child) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

According to police, Srinivasan had called the girl into his staff room and sexually assaulted her. He threatened her not to reveal it to anyone.

Srinivasan has been remanded in judicial custody.
