TN govt releases Rs. 20 lakh to defend sentenced fishermen

The Newsminute| November 8, 2014| 6.07 pm ISTThe Tamil Nadu state government, on Saturday, has sanctioned Rs. 20 lakh to be used to defend and to secure the release of the five fishermen sentenced to death by the Sri Lankan Court. Tamil Nadu CM O. Paneerselvam issued a statement saying that an appeal would be filed against the death sentences that were awarded to the fishermen on Monday. The fishermen were apprehended and sentenced for possession of narcotics by the Sri Lankan Navy. Source: IANS
