The Natural Disaster Management Authority expressed satisfaction with the Tamil Nadu government’s preparedness to meet the impact of the Northeast monsoon, even as Cyclone Nada approaches the coast. 

Lt Gen NC Marwah, Member, NDMA visited Chennai on November 29 and 30 to review the preventive and mitigation measures undertaken by the state government.

A press release stated that the Principal Secretary Dr K Satyagopal “explained various new initiatives taken by the State Government such as vulnerability mapping and analysis, formation of Inter Departmental Zonal Teams in vulnerable areas, the Institutional arrangements, restoration of water bodies & water courses and community participation.”

Lt Gen Marwah also met with Chief Secretary P Rama Mohan Rao to discuss preparations at the district and taluk level. During his meeting, he conveyed his “appreciation and satisfaction” over the initiatives taken by the state government based on the experience gained during the floods in 2015. 

Cyclone Nada is expected to cross the Tamil Nadu coast near Cuddalore on December 2. Coastal and interior Tamil Nadu is expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall for 48 hours from December 1.
