The Tamil Nadu government on Friday informed the Madras High Court that it would file a report stating the action taken against theatres, which charged exorbitant rates for ‘Kabali’ movie tickets.

A writ petition filed by Devaraj asked the court to direct the state government to take action against theatres that collected tickets at exorbitant rates. The case came for hearing on Friday before a single judge. The government pleader gave an undertaking to file a report, according to The New Indian Express.

The case was adjourned till October 21.

Devaraj, the petitioner, said that the theatres have collected much higher rates than set by the government. He also added that for movies with popular actors, the theatres charge high prices for the first five days. He also stated that the entrance fare was more than that set by the government.

The court has asked the government to form a special team to investigate and stop collection of extra fares.

Devaraj claims that when he went to watch ‘Kabali’ at a theatre in Perambur, he was charged Rs. 300 instead of Rs 50 set by the government.

The court dismissed the case and asked him to check if his representation had reached the authorities. The court also added that a special team should have been formed by the government earlier and publicised the constitution and operation of the team.

Devaraj claimed that no such information about the team was made known to the public, according to TNIE.
