Four minor boys and an 18-year-old daily wage worker were booked by the Pollachi All Women’s Police (AWPS) on February 14 for allegedly raping three minors– two girls and one boy– repeatedly. The incident happened in a village near Coimbatore’s Pollachi and the accused recorded the act on their mobile phones.

While the three minor accused were lodged at a juvenile observation home in Coimbatore, the fourth is reportedly absconding. The 18-year-old youth was also arrested and remanded in judicial custody.

The assault was initially intimated to Childline (1098), an NGO working to protect child rights, and a coordinator reported it to the Pollachi AWPS after visiting the village. Based on the coordinator’s complaint, a First Information Report (FIR) was filed.

All the accused have been booked under various Sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the police confirmed. The 18-year-old has been lodged in Coimbatore Central Prison.

The survivors were shifted to a government hospital where they were given medical aid.
