TN farmers beg for help as man in Modi mask whips them: Day 37 of agitation

Written by : TNM Staff

Tamil Nadu farmers protesting in Delhi have been trying to get the Centre’s attention to their plight for 36 days now - they’ve held the skulls of their dead colleagues, they run naked near South Block, they’ve posed as cattle…

But as the Modi government hasn’t met any of their demands yet, the farmers went one step further on Tuesday. A man in a Modi mask whipped farmers at Jantar Mantar, even as they begged him to save them.

The message was clear: We’re asking for the government’s help, but the Prime Minister is hurting us instead.

Protesting against the centre’s alleged apathy to the drought back home and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s refusal to meet them, this was their latest tactic to grab eyeballs.

The farmers have been sitting on protest in their innerwear for 36 days, and many of them are reportedly falling sick due to the heat.

The demands laid down by these farmers include - river interlinking, pension of Rs 5000 for farmers above the age of 60 and waiver of loans by banks and finance companies.
