TN electricity corporation gives domestic and industrial consumers a jolt

The News Minute | September 24, 2014 | 07.00 am ISTHigh Tension (HT) and domestic consumers have reason to worry after Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) ‘s latest plans on power cuts and increase in tariffs in the state.From Tuesday, a 20 per cent power cut will be applied to HT industrial and commercial consumers, said The Hindu. Also, if a new tariff is implemented , domestic consumers will need to shell out 15 per cent more than they do now.According to a circular, consumers can use only 10 per cent of the demand and quota during peak hours (6 pm to 10 pm). Twenty per cent cut will be applied from 10 p.m to 6 pm the next day, said the report. Wind energy generation has dropped in the State and implementations were to avoid problems during peak hours, said a Tangedco official.The tariff revisions are not expected to affect the poorer section of society, said the report.
