TN Dalit man hacking: Wife's father surrenders in court

Written by : TNM Staff

A day after a 21-year-old Dalit man was hacked to death in Udumalaipettai in Tiruppur district of Tamil Nadu, his wife's father surrendered before the Nalakottai court in Dindigul.

Twenty-one-year-old Sankar and his wife 19-year-old Kausalya were attacked in broad daylight by a gang of three people who came on a motorcycle with sickles in their hand. While Shankar died en route to the hospital, Kausalya has been admitted to a hospital in Coimbatore with grievous injuries.

While Sankar belongs to the Pallar community, the girl is apparently from the powerful Thevar OBC community.

The couple, both students, had got married 8 months ago and according to Sankar's family, had been facing constant threats from the girl's family.

Sankar's brother has even alleged that there have been two previous attempts at kidnapping, one which was foiled and the other where the girl was kidnapped.
