Speaking on the sidelines of the release of the party’s election manifesto in Kolathur, Tamil Nadu BJP chief Tamilisai Soundarrajan turned her late arrival into an opportunity to take a swipe at the ruling party. 

Apologising for her  late arrival for the event, she said that it was because she had to travel on bad roads in the city ‘built for a commission by corporation officials.’

“My fellow party members from Puducherry reached the venue in just one-and-a-half hours. They asked me why it takes them only an hour-and-a-half to come from Puducherry, but it takes me so much longer to travel from within Chennai itself. I told them, ‘You travelled on the Golden Quadrilateral roads built by our former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and not on the roads built by corporation officials after pocketing a commission for themselves,” said Tamilisai, adding that it might even take half a day for the residents of South Chennai to reach North Chennai, given the condition of the roads.

She also announced that prohibition would find a definite place in the election manifesto of the party. “We have prepared the election manifesto for the welfare of the people. We would never exploit people in the name of election. Election manifestos are for people and not for advertisement.” She added that the party does not approve of blame games when it comes to the welfare of the people.
