Tainted IPL franchise team, Chennai Super King's association with MS Dhoni may continue following a two year ban on the team, if a latest proposal floated by the IPL Governing Council is accepted by all other franchises in the league, reports ToI.

According to reports, the council has proposed to retention policy that would allow the two-time champions and Rajasthan Royals which also faced a ban, to pick players who were part of the Rising Pune Supergiants and Gujarat Lions, in the upcoming player auction. This comes after both teams, that returning to the tournament, wrote to council chairman Rajeev Shukla, demanding either a retention policy or a draft system that was used when Gujarat and Pune were included in place of the two teams in 2016.

Reports suggest that if the proposal is accepted, then Dhoni, who played for Pune Supergiants in the last two editions, will be automatically retained by CSK.

IPL chairman Rajiv Shukla told ToI that 'total retentions including Right To Match (RTM) could be anything between three to five, depending upon what majority of the franchises agree'.

The proposal will be placed in front of all owners in November. However, how acceptable this proposal will be for returning teams is questionable as other teams will be looking to retain four to five players. A CSK official told TNIE, "If other teams can retain five players and we are given only three, it won't create a level playing field. We don't want such a scenario. We will also ask for the retention policy as these players were originally part of the teams before the ban."
