A 16-year-old girl was allegedly stoned to death by her two cousin brothers, who nursed a grudge against her for informing their father about their stealing Rs 10,000 from her house near Pudukottai, police said on Monday.

Police, who arrested the brothers, both minors, said they were angry with their cousin, a school girl for informing their father about the theft.

The father had reprimanded the two boys, one aged 15 and another 12, severely. The incident happened sometime ago but the boys nursed a grudge against her, police said.

They threw stones at her last evening when she sought their help to pluck guavas from a tree of her house and fled.

The girl died due to bleeding injuries, police said.

Both the boys were arrested and remanded in judicial custody today at a juvenile home.
