A private school teacher allegedly groped six female students appearing for their class 12 board exams at a government school in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruppur district. The accused Sampath Kumar was an invigilator at the Vengamedu Government Higher Secondary School on Tuesday, March 25, which was the final day of public exams for class 12 students across the state.
Sampath Kumar reportedly groped the female students under the pretext of checking for unauthorised notes.
After completing the exam, the survivors reported the incident to their parents and to the principal of Vengamedu school. The principal reported the incident to Tiruppur North All Women's Police Station (AWPS).
Following this, several parents staged a protest outside the school.
Tiruppur AWPS arrived at the scene and spoke to the affected students. They then took Sampath Kumar to the police station for questioning.
The Tiruppur police booked Sampath Kumar under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO). He was remanded in judicial custody, the police told the media.
