Tamil Nadu governor gives Jayalalithaa consent to form government

Just 11 days after being acquitted by a vacation bench of the Karnataka High Court in the disproportionate assets case, J Jayalalithaa emerged from her Chennai Poes Garden residence and made her first public appearance in nearly eight monthsAmma’s supporters certainly did not fail to show their support as crowds clamoured to get a glimpse of the leader while her entourage of cars drove past.The News Minute brings you a quick review of the day that was:At a meeting held at AIADMK headquarters this morning, Jayalalithaa was unanimously re-elected as legislature party leader. Later, O Panneerselvam and a few other senior leaders met Jayalalithaa at her residence.As a stage setting, “caretaker CM” O Panneerselvam resigned as Chief Minister, thereby paving way for Amma to take over.Governor K Rosaiah accepted his resignation, ending Panneerselvam’s eight-month stint.Later in the noon, Jayalalithaa met governor K Rosaiah at Raj Bhavan and presented the list of ministers to him. Later, the Governor’s wife presented a shawl to Jayalalithaa. She paid tribute to AIADMK party founder MGR and DMK founder CN Annadurai by garlanding their statues at Marina Beach.Meanwhile, Karnataka High Court dismissed a public interest litigation filed by an advocate Raviraj Gururaj, against Jayalalithaa’s swearing-in ceremony. The court has also pressed a fine of Rs 25,000 on the petitioner for filing PIL based on “assumptions and presumptions”.  The Amma reign is all set to resume as Jayalalithaa is expected to be sworn in as chief minister at 11am on May 23.
