Suriya's 'C3' postponed yet again due to tense situation in Tamil Nadu

Suriya's S3 or C3, as it has been re-titled, has been postponed yet again. The film was supposed to release on January 26.

Columnist and industry trade analyst Sreedhar Pillai tweeted that the film's release has been postponed due to the tense situation prevailing in Tamil Nadu over the jallikattu issue.

Though protests against the ban on jallikattu had been peaceful for the most part, violence erupted in different parts of the state after police were deployed to disperse the crowd.

An emergency ordinance was passed on Saturday allowing jallikattu to be conducted in the state, but protesters refused to call off their protests until the bull was removed from the list of performing animals mandated by the PCA Act.

Suriya has been among those from Kollywood who have voiced their support in favour of jallikattu. PETA, one of the organisations behind the ban, had accused him of opportunism, alleging that he was using the issue to promote his upcoming film.

Suriya has since filed a case against PETA, asking them to apologise for the defamatory and "baseless" comments. He'd also called off promotional events for the film to show his solidarity with the protests.

The third in the Singam franchise, C3 was supposed to release towards the end of last year.

On Monday morning, the film's distributors confirmed that C3 would release on January 26 but have since changed their mind, taking the new developments regarding law and order into consideration.
