Stalin supporters heap presssure on Karunanidhi to vacate the throne

Kalyanasundaram for breaching party discipline, another voice within the party has spoken up in favour of Stalin being made the DMK chief. While P V Kalyanasundaram had ruffled feathers by openly declaring that he is resigning from all party posts demanding Stalin’s elevation, on Friday another leader Tamizhpugan has written to the DMK chief.Thamizhpugan too has raised the issue and demanded that Stalin be declared the party’s supreme leader. He has also complained that an Alagiri loyalist was suspended and taken back after committing worse anti-party activities, but Kalyanasundaram was suspended for writing a letter.DMK general secretary K. Anbazhagan said on Thursday that Kalyanasundaram had been suspended for breaching party discipline and for bringing a bad name for the organisation.The action against Kalyanasundaram comes after he tendered his resignation last month demanding that party treasurer M.K. Stalin be declared the chief ministerial candidate for the next election.In addition, Kalyanasundaram, a close aide of Stalin, had also urged the party to remove Rajya Sabha member Kanimozhi, Dayanidhi Maran and former union minister A. Raja from the party. Kanimozhi and Raja are accused in the telecom scam.Stalin is the younger son of former chief minister and party president M. Karunanidhi. Kanimozhi is the daughter of Karunanidhi from his third wife Rajathi. Dayanidhi Maran is a grand nephew of Karunanidhi.The DMK earlier sacked Stalin's elder brother and former union minister M.K.
