Stalin offers resignation as party treasurer

Written by : TNM

The News Minute | May 18, 2014 | 01:54 pm IST After Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, it is now the turn of M Karunanidhi's son and DMK treasurer M K Stalin to resign. Stalin on Sunday offered to resign as party treasurer. Stalin says he takes moral responsibility for his party's loss in the Lok Sabha elections. The DMK was decimated in Tamil Nadu and was unable to win even a single seat. The party even lost some of its strongholds like Chennai city to the AIADMK. Stalin's decision comes at a time when his brother and ousted party member and Alagiri supporters have blamed Stalin for the loss.In the run up to the elections, Alagiri was first suspended, then expelled from that party for anti party activities. Though Alagiri did not openly campaign against the DMK, he had discreetly put all his strength behind other party candidates, to ensure the DMK's loss. The DMK fielded tainted candidates like A Raja and Dayanidhi Maran, clearly underestimating the voter's power of discretion. The party also went ahead and fielded candidates with no local influence.Though Stalin has submitted his resignation, it is unclear if the DMK supremo will accept it.
