On Friday, DMK treasurer and leader of the opposition MK Stalin led a delegation of party MLAs to meet finance minister O Panneerselvam and PWD minister Edappadi K Palaniswami. 

He urged them to convene a special session of the assembly to pass a resolution on the Cauvery issue.

In the absence of chief minister J Jayalalithaa, who has been hospitalised since September 22, Panneerselvam, who was allocated the key portfolios held by her, promised to look into the issue.

According to The Times of India, the meeting comes a day after farmers' associations and representatives of political parties including DMK and Congress got together to pass resolutions on the Cauvery water sharing dispute.

Three resolutions were passed at the meeting, the primary one being convening a session to pass a resolution on Cauvery. 

The second resolution condemned the Centre's refusal to constitute the Cauvery management board. 

A third resolution authorised Stalin to act on the issue after the case is heard by the Supreme Court on October 18.

 Stalin also urged the government to form an all-party delegation to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. 

“Though the state government is not convening an all-party meeting, Karnataka parties are united when it comes to the Cauvery issue. We also need to show to the people that Tamil Nadu parties are together on the issue,“ he said to reporters.
