M K Stalin, dressed in a pink shirt, black pants, trendy shoes and travelling in autos started his 12-day campaing-trail from southern tip of Kanyakumari on Monday.

 

The campaign called ‘Namakku Naame Vidiyalai Nokki, meaning “towards independence for ourselves”,  targets to cover 234 assembly constituencies starting from Triveni Sangamam, a confluence of three seas, considered holy by the Hindus.

 

During the trail, he met hawkers, vendors and visited the Gandhi and Kamaraj memorials.

He claimed that M Karunanidhi, his father and the DMK patriarch was the first to start self-help groups in 1989 in Dharmapuri district.

M K Stalin also met the parish priests and offered prayers at the St. Xavier’s Cathedral.  He also received grievance petitions from the traders.

 

Making a string of promises, the DMK treasurer assured the coconut farmers that the procurement price for coconuts would be increased if the DMK returns to power in 2016. He also said that DMK would take steps to link the rivers of the state and improve water resources for irrigation and drinking purposes.

 

After a range of protests on complete alcohol prohibition in the State last month, Stalin repeated the party's stand on prohibition and blamed officials for failing to save the life of anti-liquor crusader S.K Sasi Perumal during an agitation against a TASMAC shop in Unamalaikkadai.
