3 SRM college students die in high-speed car crash in Chennai

Three undergraduate students of SRM University in Chennai were killed and three others were injured in a high-speed crash early Saturday morning in Chennai.

Maramalai Nagar police told The News Minute that there were six students, five boys and one girl, in the car, including the three deceased. 

According to police sources, the students had gone to Puducherry to celebrate a friend's birthday on Friday and drove back late in the night. The injured students said the car was rented from an online car rental site.

On Saturday morning, the six students went to a restaurant near Mahindra Tech Park, which houses a large number of IT companies. 

Police said the students were returning to their apartment when the accident took place at around 6.30 am.

The car was being driven at a speed of 100 kmph when it hit the road median. The impact flung the car into the air and smashed it against a tree on the roadside. 

Two students died on the spot while the third passed away enroute to the SRM hospital. 

The three deceased are Nelquintal (20) Subham Singh (20), Samarth Singh Rathore (20) Those injured in the accident are Shivangi (20) Sidharth Singh (20) and Neelu Singh (20)

Police sources say it is too early to comment on whether this was a case of drunken driving.
