Spoiled Aavin milk leaves 20 children sick in Salem

Written by : TNM Staff

Things turned sour in Salem city in Tamil Nadu on Thursday when the state-owned Aavin milk was supplied in the Sevvapettai region, leaving at least 20 kids and women with bouts of nausea.

Several children from residential colonies near the Salem Collectorate suffered from nausea and had to be rushed to hospital. All of them had consumed Aavin milk bought on Thursday evening.

Residents complained that a bad odour emanated from the milk when they boiled it. When the children drank the milk, immediately they started vomiting, they alleged.

Food Safety officials conducted an inspection at the houses on Bretts road and Sevvapettai area on Friday morning and collected the milk samples.

“We inspected 50 households in Sevvapet area. At least 10 persons mostly children have suffered nausea after taking the spoiled milk,” the Food Safety officer, T.Anuradha told Deccan Chronicle.
