Sivaganga custodial death: TVK chief Vijay visits victim’s family, hands over Rs 2 lakh

TVK president Vijay paid floral tributes to the victim’s portrait, spoke to his family members, and assured them of his support. He also handed over Rs 2 lakh in financial assistance to the family.

Tamil actor and founder-president of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), Vijay, visited the residence of deceased Ajith Kumar on Wednesday, July 2, and offered his condolences to the family.

Ajith Kumar, a resident of Madapuram village in Sivaganga district, died in illegal police custody after allegedly being brutally assaulted. He was detained in connection with a gold theft case.

The actor-politician paid floral tributes to the victim’s portrait, spoke to his family members, and assured them of his support. He also handed over Rs 2 lakh in financial assistance to the family.

Leader of Opposition and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami also reached out to the family over the phone and conveyed his condolences. The AIADMK, along with its ally Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), staged a protest at Tiruppuvanam demanding justice.

Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) president Thol Thirumavalavan, Tamilaga Valvurimai Katchi president and MLA T Velmurugan, and Puthiya Tamilagam president K Krishnasamy also visited the victim’s family to express their solidarity.

Earlier in the day, Tamil Nadu Minister for Co-operation K R Periyakaruppan handed over a job appointment order and land patta to the victim’s family.

Naveen Kumar, the brother of the deceased, was given an appointment order for a technician post at the Sivaganga District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union. Ajith Kumar’s mother, Malathi, received a patta for three cents of land at Theli revenue village.

The Minister also provided Rs 5 lakh to the victim’s family as a solatium on behalf of the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK).

Ajith Kumar’s death marks the 24th alleged custodial death recorded in Tamil Nadu under the DMK regime, raising serious concerns about police excesses and the lack of accountability.
