Seven women nabbed at Chennai airport for smuggling in gold

The News Minute | September 20, 2014 | 07.30 am ISTChennai custom officials have seized gold worth close to 90 lakh and arrested seven women at the city’s airport on Thursday.According to the Times of India, Rani was nabbed after she arrived on a Malaysian Airlines flight from Kaula Lumpur and officials found 14 gold biscuits on her. Four more women were caught for carrying undeclared gold and officials said that the women had been recruited by a gang to bring in gold into the country. On another flight from Singapore, two women passengers were caught carrying undeclared gold shaped in the form of phone batteries and placed inside mobile phones. There has been an increase in usage of women to bring in gold undetected into the country, said the report.
