RTI disposal rate in Tamil Nadu drops by 50 per cent

The News Minute| December 1, 2014| 08.22 am ISTTamil Nadu’s rate of disposal of RTIs have dropped by over 50 % in the last one year.The number of appeals disposed off have reduced from 19,889 in 2013 to 8,121 in November 2014, reported Times of India. Additionally, out of the ten commissioners a state can be permitted, Tamil Nadu has only four commissioners, said the report. The lack of additional commissioners also denies applicants their fundamental right, said the report.Many applicants have had to wait for over six months for their complaints to be heard, said an NGO according to the report.
