Retd Deputy Tahsildar gets 3-year jail term for taking bribe in Tamil Nadu

A Special Court on Friday sentenced a retired Deputy Tahsildar to three years imprisonment for taking Rs 50 as bribe for issuing a community certificate.

The judge of the Special Court for Prevention of Corruption cases, S Jeyasingh, also slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 on Vijayalakshmi, who contended that she was actually trapped in the case and she was innocent.

She said she had received Rs 50 being returned by the autorickshaw driver as balance amount, and some officials, who were into real estate business had trapped her for not helping them in some dealings.

On a complaint from one Suresh, she had been arrested when was she in service some two years ago.
