How can her photos be displayed in government offices? Won't this be "blatant disregard and disrespect for the majesty of law,"asks rival party MLA.A petition was filed by the DMK MLA TRB Raja in the High Court of Madras pleading it to direct the government to remove Jayalalithaa’s photos from government offices, Times of India reported.The first bench of the High Court of Madras refrained from issuing any orders on the matter. "This is, undoubtedly, partly a political battle," the court remarked. However, it has asked the government to take a decision on the matter within a month. Advocate General of Tamil Nadu AL Somayaji pointed out that there were certain government orders that permitted displaying of former Chief Ministers’ portraits in government offices. These orders, ironically, were passed twenty five years back, in 1989, by the DMK when it was in power in the state. However, the petitioner, DMK’s MLA said that this “honour” would not apply to persons who were convicted and disqualified from the post. "The message the authorities are sending out to people of Tamil Nadu is that it hailed convicted persons," the MLA said.
