Relief for DMK: Former minister Ponmudi and wife acquitted in wealth case

In a huge relief to the DMK right before the May 16 elections, senior party leader Ponmudi got acquitted in a disproportionate assets case on Monday.

Chief Judicial Magistrate court in Villupuram passed an order on the wealth case registered by the DVAC.

Ponmudi and his wife were accused of amassing disproportionate wealth to known source of income from 2006 to 2010 by Directorate of Vigilance and Corporation.

Ponmudi is set to contest the forthcoming assembly elections from Thirukovilur constituency.

He has served as the state education minister during the last DMK regime in 2006-11.
