Rajnikanth’s debut 41 years ago, today

Written by : TNM Staff

Friday will mark 41 years since Superstar Rajnikanth’s first acting gig in Balachander’s Apoorva Raagangal.

Rajinikanth was introduced by the ace director, K.Balachandar (KB) in the movie Apoorva raagangal as a co-artist in the year 1975, which also starred Kamal Hassan.

K.Balachandar met Rajnikanth, then Shivaji Rao Gaekwad, in a film institute where he was a student, asking him to meet him at his office. He was offered a role in the film.

The first frame which introduced the world to Rajnikanth, was a wide angle shot. A man is seen opening a gate, smoking a beedi, dressed in rags with the mark of disease on his face.

At the time, K.Balachandar said to his close associate Ananthu, "Watch out! There is a fire in the young man's eyes. One day he will take Tamil Nadu by storm.”

From villain and antihero to blockbuster supernova, no one in the audience, would have thought this nondescript man, who had won the least attention in the film would ever win over millions of hearts in Tamil Nadu.
