Putting to rest, albeit temporarily, all rumours that she was 'fragile' and 'seriously unwell' , Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, made an appearance at the State Secretariat on Wednesday afternoon. In a whirlwind visit to the secretariat, she handed out appointment orders to associate professors who had been recruited through the Teacher Recruitment Board. Only two days earlier, an advertisement had been issued in the AIADMK party mouthpiece “Dr Namadhu MGR” welcoming Jayalalithaa to give appointment orders to 1016 assistant professors of colleges. However, no date-time-venue details were provided leaving many guessing about when the event would be held.Her latest appearance comes in the wake of multiple rumours floating over her health condition.Atleast ten days had passed since she had stepped out in the public domain. In the last two weeks, the opposition in Tamil Nadu had created a din over her absence. DMK leader M Karunanidhi has repeatedly questioned about her condition and asked the government to release details about her health.Though roads were decorated to her benefit, Jayalaltihaa cited “sudden illness” when she skipped an iftar party held on July 2. Two days later, even her swearing-in as an MLA was a secretive affair. The media was not allowed in a quick ceremony conducted at the Secretariat.This was her last public appearance on July 4 until now.Speculation from different quarters, both politically and from the media, thus continued.  A lot of attention was drawn to her much-shortened swearing-in ceremony as Chief Minister in May. Though an MoU was later signed, an initial agreement to be signed with the Adanis on June 30 was cancelled at the last minute.On Tuesday, a criminal defamation case was filed against Rediff.com over an article commenting on her health.
