Parts of Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur districts to be under total lockdown

On Friday, five municipal corporations in Tamil Nadu had announced stricter lockdown starting Sunday to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Hours after the government of Tamil Nadu announced stricter lockdown in five city corporations -- Chennai, Madurai, Coimbatore, Salem and Tiruppur -- to bring the spread of novel coronavirus under control, three more districts surrounding Chennai joined the list.

The district administrations of Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram which surround Chennai also announced total shutdown in parts of these districts which lie close to the areas that fall under the Greater Chennai Corporation. According to the press release issued by the district collectors of Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram, the total shutdown in these areas will begin at 6 am on April 26 (Sunday) and end at 9 pm on April 29 (Wednesday). During this period, only extremely essential services will be allowed to operate, similar to the shutdown in the five city corporations in Tamil Nadu.

Here’s the full list of areas that will be fully shut down from Sunday to Wednesday:

Chengalpattu district:

Tambaram Municipality, Pallavaram municipality, Pammal, Anakaputhur, Sembakkam, Peerkkankaranai, Perungalathur, Chitlapakkam, Madambakkam and Thiruneermalai areas. Agaramthen, Madurapakkam, KOvilambakkam, Medavakkam, Vengaivasal, Moovarampattu, Tirisulam, Pozhichalur, Kavul Bajaar, Ottiyampakkam, Thiruvancheri, Mudichur, Perumbakkam, Nanmangalam, Kanathur, Reddykuppam, parts of Muttukkadu (which belongs to Thiruporur Panchayat) and areas of Chengapattu district that falls under the jurisdiction of Chennai city police.

Tiruvallur district: 

Avadi Corporation, Poonamallee municipality, Minjur, Ponneri, Naravarikuppam, all village panchayats falling under the administration of Thirumazhisai, Thiruninravur, Villivakkam, Puzhal, Poonamallee local bodies. Cholavaram, Padiyanallur, Nallur, Kumbanur, Aangaadu, Vichur, Vellivayal, Perungavur and Alamathi.

Kancheepuram district:

Mangadu municipality, Kundrathur Municipality, Ayyappanthangal, Baraniputhur, Gerugambakkam, Kolapakkam, Kovoor, Thandalam, Tharapakkam, Rendamkattalai, Moulivakkam, Periyapanicheri, Nandambakkam, Sirukalathur, Kollacheri, Kolumanivakkam, Sikkarayapuram, Poonthandalam, Malayambakkam, Thirumudivakkam and the areas of Kancheepuram district that fall under the jurisdiction of Chennai city police. 

Earlier on Friday, the government of Tamil Nadu announced stricter lockdown norms to be followed in five city corporations in the state in order to prevent unnecessary crowding of people in public places. As per that announcement, municipal corporations of Chennai, Madurai and Coimbatore will enforce total lockdown in its area limits from 6 am on Sunday to 9 pm on Wednesday, while the municipal corporations of Tiruppur and Salem will implement total lockdown from 6 am on Sunday to 9 pm on Tuesday.

Tamil Nadu, as of Friday, has 1,755 cases of COVID-19 of which these five city corporations account for 789 cases. Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram districts account for 121 cases of COVID-19 as of Friday.
