On Friday, the principal of Pachaiyappa’s College was assaulted by students after an argument broke out when the principal asked them to stop using fireworks and beating drums. The students hit him with a tender coconut and also broke the windshield of his car.

However, The New Indian Express reported that the incident happened after the students refused to show their ID cards to the principal.

After the incident, the Kilpauk police secured 16 students and started the enquiry. 

The Times of India reported that the students went on a rampage and a group of more than 50 students attacked three MTC buses and hurled stones at the authorities, leaving the principal and a constable injured.

A police officer told ToI that the students of the college had brought in a group of students who were not part of the institution. These students also stopped buses, commandeered it and started dancing on top of the buses outside the college.

The college authorities and policemen stopped two groups from entering the college but the third group managed to enter the college. A police officer said that the principal asked the students to stop beating drums and using fireworks, after which an argument broke and they started throwing stones on the principal, professors and police.

The principal was injured in the incident and after his ears started bleeding, he was immediately taken to a hospital. A police constable was also injured in the incident. The security was increased in the college and police conducted a lathicharge, and detained students from the college.
