One more pongal for Vijayakanth as SC revokes suspension of DMDK MLAs

Written by : TNM Staff

In a major embarrassment to Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalithaa just before the upcoming assembly elections, the Supreme Court on Friday revoked suspension of six DMDK MLAs.

The six MLAs - V.C. Chandirakumar, R. Mohanraj, S.R. Parthiban, L. Venkatesan, C.H. Sekar and K. Dhinakaran  were suspended by speaker P. Dhanapal on April 1 last year for creating a ‘ruckus’ on the assembly floor on February  19, 2015 along with 13 other party MLAs.

As the suspension was opposed by all the opposition parties- DMK, CPI, Congress and CPI (M), the speaker said the DMDK MLAs left a “black spot” on the image of the assembly.

Following the speaker’s orders, DMDK members were evicted from the assembly and the speaker announced their suspension for the rest of the session.

The order was passed through a voice vote and the opposition staged a walkout after losing out on numbers.
