The News Minute | March 19, 2015 | 06.20 pm ISTHe is one of the last remaining faces of the rationalist Dravidian movement, and perhaps one of the most vocal "atheist" politicians in the country. For Karunanidhi, DMK chief and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Hindu-bashing has not been something new.A leader who has followed the rationalist principles of leader EV Ramasamy Periyar, he in 2002, had reportedly said "Do Hindus have a religion? Who is a Hindu? If you ask some right thinking people they'll say that Hindu actually means a thief. I do no consider that to be a despicable thief, but a thief who has stolen the hearts," Indian Express reported. For a man who threatened action against a minister for doing the "fire walk" ritual in a Durga temple calling it "barbaric", life has come full circle for the nonagenarian who will soon be scripting a TV serial on a Hindu saint, according to the The Times of India . To be produced by yesteryear actresss Kutty Padmini, the idea of the TV show on Hindu saint, Ramanujar’s life came from Karunanidhi himself, said the report. Interestingly, the self-proclaimed atheist, who has been known to frequent temples despite his belief, even told Padmini that he had written a foreword to a book on Ramanujar a few years back. Although Karunanidhi is still branded by his belief, the DMK family is known to regularly frequent temples.TweetFollow @thenewsminute
