In a shocking incident, a call taxi driver burnt his wife alive inside his car in Nandanam following a heated argument on Sunday. The woman had already poured petrol on herself to threaten her husband.

The woman threw both her children out of the car as the fire started engulfing her.

N Prema, (28), was admitted to Kilpauk Medical College but she died at 6pm on Sunday. She gave a statement to the police and doctor stating that she was burnt alive by her husband, Nagaraj, (30).

A police officer told The Times of India that Nagaraj stepped out of the car after he set his wife on fire. Prema threw out both her children, Thisanth Raj, (4) and Yashwanth Raj, (2), through the window. The children are also admitted in the KMC hospital for treatment and are stable now. Prema’s mother, Amravathi has filed a police complaint against Nagaraj. A murder case was registered against him.

Nagaraj was driving Prema’s sister’s cab. Prema and Nagaraj got married five years ago after her first husband left her. Police said that Prema and her children were sitting on the back seat and out of anger Prema put a bottle of petrol on herself. Nagaraj set the car on fire near the First Extension of Lotus Colony opposite Boston School. He then abandoned the car and his family.
