No Ebola infections in Tamil Nadu

The News Minute | August 10, 2014 | 12.34 pm ISTThe Tamil Nadu government on Sunday denied that any person in the state was infected with the Ebola virus, which has a mortality rate of 90 percent.Tamil Nadu Health Secretary Radhakrishnan has said that it was not true that anybody in the state was infected with the virus. Contrary to news reports, the passenger who was reported as having the virus, had only been taken for routine surveillance, he said. The government has been screening passengers who fly in to India from abroad, especially from African countries, where the number of infections are high.The Health Secretary said that the person in question was more than 1,000 km away from areas where the infection was prevalent. It was just part of standard operating procedure. The man does not have any of the symptoms associated with Ebola infections, and is going to Theni.
