In yet another flashpoint in the never-ending Nadigar Sangam saga, the new office bearers of the South Indian Film Artistes Association led by actor Nasser has now decided to file a case with the Economic Offences Wing of the TN police following non-submission of accounts from the previous term. The complaint is expected to be filed against Sarath Kumar and other office bearers, and the announcement was made on Sunday.
The present office bearers had said a month ago that Sarath Kumar and co had promised to hand-over the previous accounts within 15 days of the elections which were held in October 2015, but had failed to do so. The authenticated accounts have still not been submitted. “Sarathkumar's administration has spent about `3.5 crore over the past two years. But there are no accounts for the expense. They say their auditor is out of town,” actor Vishal told the media.
Speaking to The News Minute, Nasser said that filing a complaint is standard practice and that they have to do it. “They are delaying the submission of accounts by giving excuses. The next step is obviously to file a complaint. Even if they had taken over from us and we had not given accounts, they would have done the same,” said Nasser.
Speaking to the media on Sunday, when the announcement to file the case was made, Karthi, the present Treasurer said, “Usually, accounts must be submitted on the day a team demits office. However, we chose to be patient and not initiate any action because any such move could be misconceived. We fixed a period of three months and chose to wait for them to submit the accounts. On January 9, they submitted the accounts of the Trust for the last two years. However, they were unauthenticated papers, which we couldn’t accept. Similarly, the vouchers were all without approval. In other words, they were incomplete. Therefore, we have written to them asking them to submit the complete documents.”
Meanwhile, the office bearers have also passed a resolution for the scrapping the deal with SPI Cinemas which was struck earlier by the Sarath Kumar-led team.
