The News Minute | November 9, 2014 | 01.20 pm ISTTamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam has made clear its intention to increase the water level of the Mullaperiyar dam to its fullest capacity. The TN government also said that it would make its utmost attempt to prevent the Kerala government from constructing dams across the neighbouring Pambaru and aBhavani rivers, reported NDTV.Accusing the DMK chief M Karunanidhi of instigating and creating panic on the Mullaperiyar water management issue, Panneerselvam said that the fluctuation in water storage in the Vaigai dam was the reason for the state releasing water from the Mullaperiyar dam, said the Times of India. Karunanidhi had earlier expressed strong concerns over excess water discharge from the dam as it prevent the opportunity to store water at 142 feet, said the report. Only last week, Kerala CM Oomen Chandy had said that his government was determining legal means to maintain water level at 136 feet. The TN Chief Minister had also written to the PM following media reports that dams were to be constructed across the rivers without the consultation of Tamil Nadu, said the NDTV report.
