The Leader of Opposition in Tamil Nadu and DMK Working President MK Stalin has met the Chennai police commissioner AK Vishwanathan and filed a police complaint regarding the fake tweets being attributed to him.

In his complaint, Stalin says, “Of late, anti social elements have created a fake account that looks just like my Twitter account. They have made it look like I have given opinions that I had not given, in a manner so as to sow division in Tamil society. They have created fake posts and are posting it on WhatsApp, Facebook and other social media channels.”

He goes on to say, “Those who are politically opposed to the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam(DMK) and me, those who wish to sully my reputation, those who wish to bring disrepute to the DMK, those who wish to ruin the peace in society, those who have bad intentions are indulging in these mischievous acts.”

“These anti-social elements who created fake news have also made it look like the opinions I have not expressed have come out in televisions and media houses; and they are spreading it,” he adds.

Stalin attached copies of the fake tweets and TV grabs his letter in order for law enforcement to be able to take swift action with regard to the issue. He met the Commissioner along with DMK’s Organisational Secretary RS Bharathi and the party’s legal advisor NR Elango.

Stalin also pointed out mischievous acts like these are punishable offences as per the Section 66(A) of the IT Act as well as the Indian Penal Code.

Earlier this month, BJP National Secretary H Raja had used a fake picture of a couple kissing, claiming it was at IIT-Madras, in order to hit out at Stalin for his stance on a Sanskrit song being played at the campus.
